Me…
I grew up in a family where a beautiful aesthetic was created by my parents, especially my mother. Wherever we were in the world my mother would create a home full of light, colour and a strong sense of design.
I didn’t start silversmithing to sell it. I was drawn to doing something creative. I had been in love with silver since I was a little girl. A gift of a Laotion bangle from my father Intricately decorated with traditional hand stamping was the beginning of my love affair with all things sliver.
After intermittent years of working part time on my craft, I now find myself with the priviledge of new beginnings. I am back at my work bench in my beloved studio in the bush on the South Coast of New South Wales.
I make jewellery the slow way. Conceive designs from the every day, sawn by hand - finished by hand - usually with the music on and an ice cold bottle of water within reach.
Living and working in the bush a stone’s throw from the coast feels like existing in a state of contradictions - the rich smells of the bush and all it’s activity while the tide steadily breathes just beyond the trees.
The days are quiet, slow but not empty. Every sunrise is a promise of a great day for me. I have time to daydream while I go about my chores before starting work in the studio.
I am grounded in my studio while kookaburras heckle from the tangled gums, mapies warble away and wallabies flit in and out of sight.
I found my way to my little slice of heaven quite by chance - and here I sit making things for the sheer joy of it…finally.
